Year 8s meet Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey

We were thrilled to welcome Team Great Britain’s most successful Paralympian of all time into school just before the Christmas break. Dame Sarah Storey, winner of 19 gold medals, came to speak to our year 8 students in a special assembly focusing on 'resilience'. Sarah told the students about her journey as a swimmer and cyclist which started when she was in secondary school. At the age of 14 she competed in her first Paralympics in Barcelona and since then has competed in various Commonwealth Games, World Championships and further Olympic Games.

Sarah’s story was one with a clear message of determination and resilience. She spoke of being in the pool at 5.30am before school and breaking down big challenges into small, achievable steps. Students asked her some great questions, including which exams she studied for, who was the most famous person she has met and what is the most interesting country she has visited. Sarah explained that her exam choices had a positive impact on her career, including GCSE and A Level French which she utilised at the Paris Paralympic Games. A huge thank you to Sarah for visiting us and inspiring our students.
