Our options process for year 9 runs in January and February each school year. Students learn about the subjects they can take, and about the implications for their future education and careers of the choices they make.
The subjects on offer and the rules around choices can change from year to year. The school’s governing body approves the subjects offered and the curriculum structure each year. If you are thinking ahead to year 9 in 2024, it is important that you do not assume that the subjects and process will be the same as it was in 2023.
The subjects we offered to our mainstream students in 2023 were:
In 2023, students chose four option subjects. All students, other than those based in Learning Support, are required to take either history or geography and are strongly encouraged to study a modern foreign language. We believe that these English Baccalaureate subjects help develop an understanding of the world and develop academic skills.
