Year 11 mock interviews with local employers

Our Careers Programme is designed to get students ready for post-16 and the world of work beyond school. Before the half term break all of our Year 11s had a mock interview with a local employer to help them to prepare and practise for their upcoming interviews with colleges and apprenticeship providers.

Students learnt about interview techniques as part of our Post-16 Week activities in the summer, and they also did some preparation during tutor time. They each received an appointment card with the date, time, name and company of their interviewer. Year 11s were then expected to arrive for their appointment on time and looking smart.

We invited senior staff from local companies to hold the interviews, giving our students experience of a real interview situation. The interviewers from Nestlé Waters, Swizzels Matlow Limited, Blue Grass Purple Cow, Breedon Group plc and Natural Stone Surfaces were very impressed with how our students conducted themselves and the quality of their answers to some difficult questions. The employers concluded the interviews by giving students some feedback to help them to understand what went well and what they might need to improve on for future interviews e.g. body language, doing their research beforehand and being ready to ask their own questions. Many of our students were nervous about going for an interview, as we would expect, but all of them did really well. They left feeling positive about their performance and more prepared for future interviews. A big well done to our Year 11s for making such a great impression. We would also like to say a huge thank you to the local employers who gave our Year 11s such a great experience.
