Just before the half term break, a group of Year 10s went to visit Manchester Metropolitan University to find out more about Higher Education and what is like to be an undergraduate student. We met our guides for the day, the MMU Student Ambassadors, and listened to their presentation about university life. This covered a range of topics, including:
The Student Ambassadors talked about their courses and different experiences at university, with one choosing to live at home with family and others living away in student accommodation. They also gave our students some advice about staying on top of workloads, keeping fit and well and managing their money.
The group then took a tour of the university campus, taking in buildings and departments such as the All Saints Library, the Faculty of Business and Law, the Faculty of Health and Education, Manchester School of Art, Manchester Poetry Library and the Faculty of Science and Engineering. We also passed a range of student accommodation, old and new, and talked about the pros and cons of staying at home vs. living away. This was followed by lunch in the Students’ Union.
Thank you to the MMU team for giving our students an insight into university life, this has got them thinking about whether Higher Education might be for them and the different options on offer. We are looking forward to taking more students on university trips later in the year.
