Year 10 summer science competition

Four of our year 10 students participated alongside other schools in a science competition at Stockport Grammar School. The competition is aimed at providing pupils who have a passion for science with the opportunity to use advanced lab equipment and to engage in science beyond the curriculum.

All teams were allocated famous scientist names; our team 'Edmond Locard' included Miriam S, Daniel P, Team Captain Connie G and Leonard P. The competition comprised of solving a ‘whodunnit’ crime mystery using fingerprint analysis, as well as three practicals which included: a chemistry based titration challenge; a physics electromagnet challenge; and a biology based urine analysis challenge.

The students had lots of fun competing in the challenges and particularly enjoyed experimenting with the electromagnet, and the glucose testing. Ms Brooke was very proud of the group and it provided another excellent opportunity for them to consider their post-16 options whilst working alongside Stockport Grammar 6th form pupils.
