Students enjoy cultural activities in Barcelona

We’re delighted to have run our first school trip abroad since the Covid-19 pandemic.  Thirty students from years 9 and 10, all studying Spanish, spent four full days in Barcelona.

They made an early start, leaving school at 3am for the 6:30am flight out of Manchester airport on the Monday morning.

We enjoyed an action-packed four days of sightseeing and cultural activities, and lots of walking around the city, we averaged over 20,000 steps a day!  Particular highlights were getting to tour the world-famous Camp Nou stadium, and enjoying a frighteningly windy cable car up to Montjuic castle, which offered panoramic views over the city, port and surrounding mountains.  We explored the beach area, the Gothic quarter and the impressive Plaza de Catalunya and its surrounding streets.

Our students benefitted from a range of cultural activities, including learning how to cook a paella from scratch (and then eating it), and having a Catalan rumba percussion workshop, and learning how to play the Catalan ‘cajón.’

Our students were superb, quickly becoming experts in Barcelona metro navigation, not easy, and making the most of opportunities to practise their Spanish with the locals.  We’re now looking forward to French and German trips later this year.
