Here at Chapel High we aim to raise the aspirations of all of our students, encouraging them to open their eyes to life beyond the hills of the High Peak and to think ahead to where their success at school could take them in the future.
Before the Easter break, all of our year 10 students attended a special extended assembly presented by the University of Cambridge. The university’s Access Programme Manager, Jude, talked to students about her own experiences of Oxbridge, what it is like to study in Cambridge and how the collegiate system works. She also informed the group about the different degree subjects on offer, how to choose the right subjects at A Level and the huge range of clubs and societies students can join.
The assembly also covered fees and finance, how the student loan system works and the bursaries they might be able to apply for. Our year 10s then watched a video about the University of Cambridge and followed ‘a day in the life’ of a geography undergraduate as she attended lectures, studied in the library, socialised with friends and worked on degree projects.
A big thank you to Jude for inspiring our Year 10s and giving them a brilliant introduction to life at the University of Cambridge. This has really got students thinking about their own future choices and whether studying at university might be for them.
