We welcomed ambassadors from Oxford University on Monday who came to deliver careers talks to our Year 10 and Year 11 students. Year 10s enjoyed an introduction to the benefits of Higher Education and what university is like, including how it is different to school and college, student accommodation options and the wide range of clubs and societies on offer. The group also learnt about what makes Oxford University unique, what studying there is like and what tutors look for in applications and interviews in addition to good grades (for example, enthusiasm and real passion for a subject).
The talk for Year 11s went into greater detail about the types of courses and modes of study on offer at Oxford. They discussed the huge variety of unusual subject combinations to choose from and what it feels like to sit in a lecture theatre. Students also learnt about the facilities and resources at the university, including the library which has more than 13 million books! The ambassadors talked about the success of Oxford graduates and the types of jobs they get, explaining where an Oxford degree could take them in the future.
These talks have given our older students a good introduction to what university is like and what the benefits of Higher Education are. This will help them to make decisions in the future and to choose a path that is right for them. A big thank you to Luke and Rebecca for giving our students an insight into Oxford University and for answering their questions about student life.
