Careers project with DEBP for students based in Learning Support

We are delighted to welcome our friends from Derbyshire Education Business Partnership (DEBP) who will be working with our students based in Learning Support over the next two months. Their Careers Advisor, who specialises in working with young people with special educational needs, will be working with a group of students on a careers project called “Zooming into Business” which will culminate in a live video chat with an employer before the summer.

Together the group will be learning more about what to expect in the workplace and the skills they might need to succeed. The group will also discuss the differences between work and education options.
Last week’s session started with introductions, a skills bingo game and discussion about the types of jobs our students based in Learning Support might be interested in doing when they leave school. They will then decide about the type of employer they would like to speak to for the live video chat.

The sessions will cover a range of topics including how to use Microsoft Teams, using the internet safely and how to make video calls. During the live video chat with an employer, students will able to find out more about what they do, ask questions about the different kinds of jobs available and learn about what is important in applications and interviews. This is going to be a very valuable programme to help our students based in Learning Support to get ready for their next steps after school.
