To mark Anti-Bullying Week, every house had an assembly with their Pastoral Leader and Mrs Bramwell. The assembly reminded all students of why we need to have a week to focus on bullying. Different types of bullying were highlighted, including physical, verbal, cyber, and isolation.
The assembly included some stark statistics on bullying: 1 in 3 young people will experience bullying at any one time, 1 in 5 young people will not want to tell their parent/carer as they do not want to worry them, 1 in 5 young people will receive a hurtful message every day. The message was that 'This Is Not OK'.
The assembly then listed ways that students can get help and support both in and out of school. They can speak to their tutor, pastoral leader, or any trusted member of staff about bullying they have experienced or that they have seen. The assembly also reminded students that, 'I'm only having a laugh', 'I was joking' or 'It's just banter' are not excuses for unkind and hurtful behaviour and that hurtful messaging on social media can be classed as bullying.
We also relaunched our email address ‘Chapel Calls it Out’ which students can use to report any type of bullying/unkind behaviour they may have seen or experienced. This is monitored by the whole Pastoral Team in school and anything reported here will be investigated.
