What did you do when you left school?
When I left high school, I attended Aquinas College and studied for A Levels in History, Geography and Law.
How did you decide what you wanted to do? Who influenced/helped you?
During my time at Chapel High school, I always enjoyed humanities subjects more. This was heavily influenced both by my mum who was a Geography teacher and the teachers I had whilst at school, especially Mr Bushaway who always seemed to make history lessons more exciting.
Please tell us about your current role:
I am currently in my final year of an LLB Law degree at the University of Sheffield. I also work part-time as a bartender/events co-ordinator at one of the golf clubs in Sheffield and have enjoyed working in bars throughout my time at university.
How did you get into this type of work?
Whilst studying Law at A Level, I quickly realised it was something I was both passionate about and seemingly quite good at. I had completed my Law A Level and attained an A* (however this is not necessary to do a Law degree). I also had to undertake the LNAT test to apply for certain universities, but again, this is not necessary for all Law degrees.
What is the best thing about your current role?
The idea of working in the legal field in the future aligns closely with my personal values of wanting to improve inequalities within society and help the disadvantaged to obtain legal services wherever necessary.
What advice would you give students who are thinking about their next steps after school?
Whatever you choose to do, whether it’s A Levels or an Apprenticeship, do it in something you enjoy as this will make it so much easier to stay motivated and do well. Also, don't worry too much, it's a very big decision to make at 16 and I remember thinking if I picked the wrong thing that would be it then for the rest of my life, but I promise you it isn't and you'll always find the right path.
