The theme for World Book Day this year was ‘The Magic of Reading’, and it certainly cast a spell over students at Chapel High. Our annual lunchtime literary quiz was so well subscribed that the library could no longer hold the number of teams who entered, and the event had to be moved into the drama studio.
First place went to Mr Bilney’s team – a huge well done to star readers Faith, Rowan, Fallon, Guin and Mila. Second place went to The Kit Kats (Molly, Faye, Maya and Betty) and third place to Keep it Krill (Efan, Toby and Rory).
Presiding over it all was chief magician Mr Brook, whose inimitable compering skills ensured everyone had a great time!
Tutor groups, meanwhile, entered a very different WBD quiz: The Masked Teacher! In order to win cash prizes to spend however the tutor group decides, classes tried to identify school staff reading the opening of their favourite book. The tricky part? Staff had filters over their faces, turning them into unicorns, dragons and all kinds of strange gremlins. There was definitely witchcraft and wizardry afoot at Chapel High’s World Book Day this year.
