As part of our Post-16 Week for Year 10s, we organised an ‘Employer Speed Networking’ event on Friday 1st July. We invited 25 local employers from a range of industries to have an exhibition stand in the school hall. Groups of students took it in turns to spend two minutes with each employer to find out about the type of work they do, ask questions about their job roles and the different routes into industry. After the two minutes, a whistle blew to tell students to move on to the next employer for the ‘speed networking’. This meant that every Year 10 had the chance to meet every employer at the event, learning about a huge range of different careers and organisations. Students were then given free time during their lunch break to go back and speak to the employers they wanted to know more about. The hall was also opened up to all year groups who took the opportunity to speak to the employers and ask them questions about their work.
We had employers representing a wide range of industries and job roles, including Supply Chain, Customer Services, Engineering, Social Media Management, Marketing, Hospitality and Catering, Radio and TV Production, Teaching, Technology, Acting/Directing and Insurance/Risk. We also had exhibitors from public services including Derbyshire Constabulary, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, the Ambulance Service plus the full range of Armed Forces.
The event was a huge success and there was a buzz around the school hall all morning as students took the opportunity to interact and learn from so many employers. Our Year 10s are now more informed about the world of work and the different routes available to them at post-16. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the exhibitors for helping us to put on such a great event:
