National Apprenticeship Week 2026

Just before the half term break, we celebrated 'National Apprenticeship Week' in school with a number of careers activities, including tutor time presentations, visits from employers and a quiz. We invited local employers from NestlĂ© Waters, Otter Controls, Swizzels Matlow and Maxim Business Training (Macclesfield College) to have stalls in our dining social area during lunchtime. They talked about their jobs and apprenticeship opportunities, and students from all year groups asked them some fantastic questions about their industries and the products they make.

On the Wednesday, the team from the University of Derby: Buxton visited us with their brilliant 'big red bus' which was parked up outside school all morning. Groups of students visited the bus to take part in teambuilding exercises, including apprenticeship versions of 'Catch Phrase', 'Wheel of Fortune' and a practical problem-solving task. They worked together brilliantly in teams, learning lots about apprenticeships and technical training in a fun and interactive way.

These careers activities gave our students the opportunity to find out more about post-16 choices, and it was great to hear discussions around school about apprenticeships of all kinds. A big thank you to the local training providers and employers who helped us to raise awareness in school during this special week.
