Another successful Year 7 team building event was held this year in our sports hall. A revised programme was run indoors due to the poor weather but a good time was had by all. The Year 7 students were enthusiastic and supportive of each other whilst trying to solve the various problems. A large number of year 10 students were chosen to help run the activities and provide guidance for the younger ones. Overall a great day with lots of fun thrown in! Huge congratulations to our 4 students from year 7 & 8 who did amazingly well representing our school at the International Kids Lit Quiz competition this year – they came 4th out of 16 teams entered into our local regional heat. Harry Woodward, Lilly Baker & Joe Shaw from year 7 and Gwen Smith from year 8 represented our school and showed off their vast knowledge of all things bookish scoring a massive 71 points out of a possible 100. The competition took place at Lady Manners School in Bakewell and the students had a great afternoon out of school competing in this fun, yet prestigious, competition. Well done!
We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Derbyshire Outstanding School Achievement Award for Sport and Physical Activity for 2019.
This award recognises the commitment and enthusiasm of our entire PE team and the numerous staff and students who support the department in encouraging all members of the school to lead healthy, active lives. This is reflected not only in exceptional and consistent levels of achievement in local and national competitions but also in high levels of participation throughout the school community for all students regardless of ability. An amazing achievement, congratulations to all.
A group of 28 students from years 9 to 11 took part in a trip to Berlin last week. Students visited all the main sites including the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie and monuments and museums dedicated to the Berlin Wall. They were also lucky enough to experience a mini autumnal heatwave, enjoying temperatures of 24 degrees and sunny days, whilst Derbyshire sat under rainclouds. A brilliant if exhausting trip with a fantastic group of students who were an absolute credit to the school.
