This year’s cohort of year 11 students are worthy of particular congratulation as they have experienced a number of significant changes to the educational system during their time in school. These changes, tougher courses, more content and an increased focus on examinations, have presented challenges to both students and school staff. These students sat more hours of examinations that any 16 year olds in the last thirty years. In this context, it is great to see our students deliver another superb set of results across the school.
Headteacher Simon Grieves said, “I’m delighted with this year’s results. It is fantastic to see great performance across the grade range. I am always especially pleased to see those who work hard, rewarded with the grades that they deserve, allowing them to progress to their chosen post 16 courses. Students have done particularly well at the top end, with many achieving at the new grade 9 in a range of subjects. However, we are equally proud of those who have met or exceeded their targets, irrespective of their ability, especially those who have sometimes found school difficult.
At a time when many schools are cutting provision in arts and technology subjects, I am proud that our students have the opportunity to succeed in a wide range of subjects, including photography, art, drama, music and technology.”
