Our fantastic library team will be promoting Empathy Day in school over the next week. Empathy Day is held on 10th June and aims to help everyone understand and experience the power of empathy through stories. The day focuses on using books to try and step into someone else’s shoes. Scientists say we can train our brain with stories - the more we emphasise with characters, the more we can try to understand other people’s feelings.
We will be setting up an empathy action group with students and staff to promote this important message throughout school. Students will also be watching a special assembly to learn about the power of empathy and why it is important to understand other people’s perspectives and emotions. We will finish by building an Empathy Wall in school with tutor groups and individual students displaying their recommendations for empathy boosting stories, with prizes for the winning entries.
